Food for Thought

Lord, you puzzle me. I hear you telling me to persist, I hear you say, “God will quickly grant justice.” But when I think of good people suffering, of children dying, of Jews in Auschwitz, still singing the psalms as they walked into the gas chambers. Surely there are times when you delay in helping us?

At times like this I turn to the memory of your passion, and your agonized prayer in the garden. You have faced a dark and apparently empty heaven, yet stayed faithful. Keep me with you.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH?     WELCOME!

Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.

Thank you and welcome.

DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE

This year ends the Development and Peace five year program devoted to promoting sustainable human development through the participatory management, democratic control and equitable distribution of resources.

In 2005, Development and Peace was one of the first organizations to campaign against the use of bottled water in areas where water is publicly, freely and safely distributed. This campaign was a great success and many Canadian civil society organizations have continued to mobilize on this issue.

In the north, more and more people are giving up bottled water. Now companies are focusing their efforts on developing new markets, this time in the Global South, by privatizing many water sources. This privatization restricts the public’s access to water in many communities. It also curbs public investment in water treatment and distribution systems.
