Reading I 1 Kings 19.16b, 19 - 21 Responsorial Psalm You are my chosen portion, O Lord.
Reading II Galatians 5.1, 13 - 18 Gospel Luke 9. 51 - 62
Food for Thought

James & John are restless, asking “what is the use of having power if you do not use it on those who reject you?” the gentle tolerance of Jesus demands greater strength than the spirit of revenge and furious mediation.

When Abraham Lincoln was criticized for being too courteous to his enemies, he replied:” Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?”

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH?     WELCOME!

Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.

Thank you and welcome.

OLV WARDEN’S MEETING UPDATE - Investment Pays Off
A decision two years ago to install a temperature control apparatus on the furnace is paying dividends. This apparatus automatically controls oil usage based on the temperature outside. As an example, when the temperature changes outside, the system makes an adjustment to ensure the temperature within the church and rectory is adjusted accordingly. It is particularly effective when temperatures outside rise, as it automatically reduces the temperature inside, thus avoiding an over usage.

As a result, over the past two years our oil consumption has been reduced by 3090 liters, which is a reduction of 12.7% in usage. Controlling oil costs continues to be a major focus in the Warden’s efforts to reduce administrative costs.

JUST EQUIPPING

Last Sunday at OLV, Pierre Allard of Just Equipping helped us welcome Fr. Babychan who assisted Fr. Gyan at the 9:00 mass. Many parishioners were asking about this visitor and about Just Equipping, one of OLV’s tenants who rents office space in the rectory.

Just Equipping is a Canadian registered charity committed to educating, training and equipping in the area of restorative justice. Since 2006, a number of training missions have taken place in Africa (Rwanda, Burundi, RD Congo and Cameroon). Just Equipping can play a crucial role in the reintegration of offenders, the rebuilding of communities, the comfort of victims, and the future of corrections and chaplaincy in these countries. Their mission is fulfilled by sending teaching teams to developing countries for intensive training sessions and also by bringing to Canada a number of key leaders to benefit from the annual Restorative Justice course at Queen’s University in Kingston. One of the important features of Just Equipping is its unique partnership with Queen’s Theological College. Because of this partnership, an International Diploma in Restorative Justice can be granted.

As Fr. Babychan told us last Sunday, he is originally from India but has been working for many years as a Chaplain at a prison in South Africa. He indicated the great work being done by Just Equipping and its President, Pierre Allard and was very grateful that they provided him the opportunity of attending the Restorative Justice course at Queen’s University. After helping Fr. Gyan at the mass, Pierre was driving him to the train station and then he was on to his return flight to South Africa.

From time to time, parishioners may see other participants from various countries, either in the rectory or attending one of our masses. They are possibly just arriving in Canada and on their way to Kingston or just stopping in Buckingham before their return flights. You can visit the Just Equipping website at www.justequipping.org for more information.
