Reading II 1 Corinthians 10.1-6, 8 + 11(r.8a) Gospel Luke 13.1 - 9
Food for Thought
  • Jesus chose Peter, James & John to witness his glory before he faced the passion. It woke them up, this mysterious and memorable moment on Mount Tabor.
  • Thank you Lord, for the moments when I feel you close to me. They strengthen me to face desolate lowlands of my life.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH?     WELCOME!

Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.

Thank you and welcome.

ASKING FOR HUMILITY

The help of our Lady is the surest guarantee of progress in this virtue. Mary is both mother of mercy and of affection, to whom no one turns in vain; entrust yourself confidently to her, asking her to bring this virtue (of humility within your reach, a virtue which She highly appreciated.

Don’t be afraid of not having your request heard by her. Mary will ask this of God, who exalts the humble and brings down the proud. And as Mary is all powerful beside her son, your prayer will certainly be answered.

Having considered the Lord’s teachings, and having contemplated the example of humility in Our Lady, we can finish with this petition: Lord, take away my pride; crush my self-love, my desire to affirm myself and impose myself on others. Make the foundation of my personality be my identification with you.

DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE

This year, the Development and Peace Partner in Action sheet (included with the bulletin) features a full-colour story in drawings about the communities our Columbian partner, Justice and Peace, helps. During our Fall campaign, we showed how the spread of agrofuel crop plantations in the Global South leads to the loss of land and livelihoods for small-scale farmers. In the Choco region of Columbia, small rural communities have been persecuted, their houses burnt to the ground, and family members assassinated to clear land for these plantations. Justice and Peace helps them reclaim their land and their rights. “Thanks to Justice and Peace, we have some peace,” say community members.

The annual collection for Share Lent will take place on the weekend of March 20-21, Solidarity Sunday.

For the last three years, the local Catholic churches have hosted a “Hunger Meal” to raise awareness of Development and Peace. This year, there will be something different: a Bowl-a-thon on Saturday, March 27th from 12 noon until 12 midnight. For more information, see the poster on the church bulletin board.

THINKFAST 2010

Come join us for our annual THINKfast event (which helps support the work of Development and Peace) and we guarantee you a good time! Last year, over $250 000 was raised across Canada to support development projects in third world countries.

What is a THINKfast event? THINKfast is a 25-hour famine which will begin and end with a wonderful meal together. Throughout the event there will be many activities, movies and lots of fun while we learn about world issues, development projects, peace initiatives and most importantly, what we as individuals can do to make a difference.
