Reading I Isaiah 43.18 – 19, 20 – 22, 24 - 25 Responsorial Psalm Lord, heal my soul for I have sinned against you.
Reading II 2 Corinthians 1.18 - 22 Gospel Mark 2. 1 - 12.
Food for Thought
  • There is goodness and ingenuity in this scene. The four friends of the paralytic were ready to take enormous trouble over him, to make sure he had contact with Jesus.
  • I can imagine the curiosity of the crowd, I can imagine Jesus smiling, and then surprising everyone by tackling the man’s inner sickness.
  • I can imagine the joy all around as the man obeys Jesus’ word, picks up his mat and walks away on his own feet.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH?     WELCOME!

Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest.

Thank you and welcome.

LENT 2009
This coming Wednesday, our church will look a little different; it will have a Lenten look. The cross with the burlap, the ashes, the banners, the purple – they underline the fact that as Christians, we are signing up for renewal on the way to Easter when we will have our baptism renewed. The Scripture readings and music will also sound different, as part of the Lenten repertoire.

During Lent, the Church asks for signs of penance, which bring us closer to God and give a special joy to the soul. She also asks us to be generous in giving alms. We should practice this with a merciful heart, wanting to console someone in need or to contribute, according to our means, to some work of apostolate for the good of souls.

This year, we have included the Development and Peace Lifestyle Awareness Calendar with the bulletin to replace the burlap strips previously handed out on the first Sunday of Lent. Place the Calendar in a prominent place in your homes so it can remind us of the great need in other countries. Imagine the new life we can bring to people in the developing countries by our Lenten effort.

LENT AND DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE
The Liturgy Committee and the Transformation Committee are planning to use the Development and Peace symbols to decorate our two churches during Lent. We are asking parishioners for help in locating the required symbols, which are:

  1. Chatangas - a Zambian colourful woven cloth which can be worn as a skirt, or as a shawl. It can be used to carry babies or wound up to protect women's heads when they are carrying water or heavy loads on their heads.

  2. Woven baskets, in a variety of shapes and patterns, used to bring goods to market and home again.

  3. Maracas or drums - symbol of the way in which Zambians can transcend hardships to build a community of joy.

If you have one of these symbols and would not mind lending it from the 1st Sunday of Lent (February 28/March 1) until Solidarity Sunday (March 28/29), please contact the church Secretary, Alma Miller.
