Food for Thought
  • What is the Blessed Trinity?
  • I do not understand it, Lord; but I try to live it. Patrick Kavanagh hoped, ‘’that through the hole in reason’s ceiling we can fly to knowledge without ever going to college.
  • Let me sit within this mystery for a while.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH? WELCOME!
Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest. Thank you and welcome.

IN "CHURCH LANGUAGE" WE ARE BACK IN ORDINARY TIME
The Church's year is made up of two high seasons (Lent-Easter and Advent-Christmas) along with two 'blocks' of ordinary time. We are now back in Ordinary Time, after the 90-day Lent-Easter season. It is most noticeable in the changed decor of the church. The Easter banners have gone we are back to green. A hearty thank you to all who works so hard to make our space so richly authentic and beautiful. Now the changing power of what we celebrate in the high season is being tested… in so many aspects of real life outside the walls of the church....

BLESSING OF YOUR HOMES
As is the tradition in India, the water that is blessed at Easter, is taken by their parish priest to bless the homes of his parishioners during the Easter Season. Father has now begun blessing homes for St. Malachy & OlV parishes. If you are interested in having your home blessed, please advise the office at 819-986-3763, ASAP and leave your name, address and phone number. Father Gyan will then be able to visit all homes in the same area on the same day. We will contact you as to the day that Fr. Gyan will be in your area.

49th International Eucharistic Congress in Quebec City - June 15th to 22nd

Before Lent, our Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) provided some information on the Eucharistic Congress in a few bulletins; i.e. some background information on the Congress, information on the logo, the theme song and information about the Ark of the New Covenant which was travelling across the country. Some of us were able to come together at St. Aloysius this past January when the Ark made a stop there, all in an effort to help us expand the horizons of our understanding of the Eucharist. The Ark is still travelling from diocese to diocese and will arrive in Quebec City on May 25th.

In less than one month, I will be on my way to join the other pilgrims from across Canada and around the world for the 49th International Eucharistic Congress in Quebec City. When our PPC was asked by the diocesan organizing committee to nominate at least one delegate to attend the Congress from June 15th to the 22nd, I was fortunate enough to be in a position to say yes on behalf of our two parishes.

The diocesan delegation (132 delegates were registered at the Diocese at last count) has met three times to prepare for the Congress, each time with some kind of reflection on the Eucharist and what it means to each of us personally. What PPC has asked me to do when I return from the Congress is to share with our two-parish community something of this unique experience of true Eucharistic renewal.

We have now received material from the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops for the second special collection for the Congress which will be held across Canada on May 24-25. Envelopes for this special collection are available at the entrance of the church. The Congress’ organizers hope to count again on your generosity to ensure the success of this event.

The invitation brochure for the Eucharistic Congress is entitled “Let’s Celebrate” and suggests that participation will be “A rich experience, following in the footsteps of the Disciples of Emmaus.” I am quite excited about attending this Congress and I hope to return energized with the Spirit leading the way home.

RELAY FOR CANCER

A committee has been organized, with the aid of the Canadian Cancer Society. A 12-hour Relay for Life event will take place on June 13th at McAndrew Park here in Buckingham.

Our committee is responsible for the planning of events for the survivors and fighters of this terrible disease. This will include a meal, some presentations and the coordination of the Victory Lap, which will open this event.

To sponsor people, to buy candles which will be lit along the Victory lap, to make donations or for any other information, please call Monique Simpson at 819-986-3166. If you know survivors or fighters of this disease, please give their names to Monique.

A donation box has been placed near the stairs at Our Lady of Church for your contribution. It will be there every Sunday until the end of May.

This is our way of remembering and respecting those who have either won, are still fighting, or who have lost the battle from this terrible disease.
