Food for Thought
“Jesus wept.” Lord, you are not a cold icon. You are as vulnerable as we are to sadness, loss and grief. Remember me by name. Keep me a place in your heart as you had a place for Lazarus.

ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH? WELCOME!
Welcome to those who want to make our parish their faith home. You may have come from other places. You may have been “away for a while”. Be assured that we love to have you among us. We would appreciate it very much if you identified yourself at Mass. It would also help if you would take the time to fill out a registration form. The next time you are with us, you may leave it in the collection basket or give it to one of the ushers or to the priest. Thank you and welcome.

THE HOLY MOUNTAIN OF EASTER IS IN SIGHT
With winter hanging on as it does, it is hard to believe that Easter is so close. However, we are getting things in place to celebrate the great event that the season of Lent aims at: the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. That is the source of our Christian identity. The Christian life is unrecognizable without it. Yes, these coming two weeks are very intense. Our participation in what we do as Church is not just optional or desirable, but a must. At least it is hoped that we can find a way to set other things aside and to give priority to what marks us as Christians.

We keep our focus on the upcoming Three Great Days, starting on Holy Thursday evening, including Good Friday and Holy Saturday and concluding on Easter Sunday. Wherever possible, let us observe these important days of our Christian faith: This one weekend of the year doing other things than what we normally do on weekends, just because we are Christians. The Muslims can do it, the Jews can do it. Surely, as Christians we can do it too.

Holy Thursday:
March 20th OLV
7:00 p.m.
Mass of the Lord’s Supper
Good Friday:
March 21st OLV
3:00 p.m.
Celebration of the Lord’s Passion
  St. Malachy
7:30 p.m.
Reflection/Mediation
Holy Saturday:
March 22nd OLV
9:00 p.m.
Easter Vigil
Easter Sunday:
March 23rd St. Malachy
9:00 a.m.
Eucharist
  OLV
11:00 a.m.
Eucharist

Yes, these principal services are all being held at O.L.V., but they are also to include St. Malachy. If at any time our two parishes should be together it is at these services which define us as Christians. After all, does not the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ have everything to do with transcending and breaking through difference and barriers?

AS PART OF PREPARATION FOR EASTER - RECONCILIATION/CONFESSION
Please note: No individual confessions are scheduled during the Three Great Days. The reason for that is that Lent ends on Holy Thursday evening. The Sacrament of Reconciliation, whether celebrated individually or communally, is properly a Lenten practice. In this way we keep the Three Great Days free for celebrating the immense mystery of our faith.

THE ARCHBISHOP INVITES US TO THE CHRISM MASS
The holy oil, used for Baptism and Confirmation and for the anointing of the sick are consecrated and blessed at the Chrism Mass over which the Bishop presides. It puts in focus that as baptized-confirmed people we have become a consecrated people filled with the Spirit of God's holiness.

Once the oils are consecrated and blessed, they are distributed to representatives from the parishes where these oils will be used in the course of the year. These oils are brought in procession into our church at the Holy Thursday celebration.

The Chrism Mass is celebrated at the Cathedral (245 St. Joseph Blvd., Hull Sector) on the Wednesday of Holy Week, March 19, 7:30 p.m. The Archbishop invites all parishioners. It would be good if we had a decent representation from both our parishes to honour our place in the diocese and our bond with the bishop.

WASHING FEET ON HOLY THURSDAY
This is very much part of the Holy Thursday service. In this, at first sight, embarrassing gesture the basic thrust of what we celebrate in the Three Great Days is summed up: God's love for us, God's becoming the servant of us all. If we feel uneasy about this strange gesture, we are in good company. The apostle Peter did not want to hear of it either when Jesus approached him. In Peter's estimation it was not very becoming to Jesus to do that sort of thing.

In Jesus, God wants to be servant of us all. Hence, all should feel free to be part of this strange, but powerful gesture. It is so much part of this Holy Evening.

THE DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE "SHARE LENT" COLLECTION
- In the course of the year we have a number of second collections for a variety of causes. The Development and Peace collection is different, however. Yes, the special envelope is part of next Sunday's bulletin. But ideally, what we put in there is what we have accumulated during all of Lent by our fasting. Handing in that envelope is a real Easter gesture, and so, one that could wait to be presented as late as Easter’s dawning on March 23rd. …Imagine the new life we can bring to people in the developing world by our whole Lenten effort!

Hunger Meal

Reminder : The Development and Peace Hunger Meal will be held in the OLV Church hall at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9 th. Everyone is welcome. Free-will donation.

“I believe – I give”
“I believe in God who asks me to give food to the hungry; I believe in the cause pursued by Development and Peace; and I believe that this organization – our organization – is an efficient one. This is why I give to Development and Peace, and why I invite my fellow citizens to do likewise.”
  Roger Ébacher,
Archbishop of Gatineau
