ADVENT PENITENTIAL/RECONCILIATION SERVICE - SUNDAY, DEC. 19, 7:00 P.M. :
It is entirely in line with Advent to come together as a parish community to say explicitly that we, personally and as a community, stand in need of what God offers us in Jesus Christ -- forgiveness of our sins.

Yes, we are a sinful people. That is not a put-down. It is an acknowledgment that there are dark corners of various kinds in our individual hearts and in us as a community. Only a gracious and forgiving God can handle these dark corners. In "our being out of joint" we confidently yield to that kind of God.

That is what Dec. 19's service is all about. It is a good way of preparing for Christmas, and it is one of the ways in which we can grow in holiness. And that is what we all seek.

INDIVIDUAL CONFESSIONS:
What we celebrate in the communal service can also be celebrated in a more personal way in "individual confession". One form does not cancel out the other. Having God's forgiveness spoken over us in a more personal way can complement significantly the more general communal way of celebrating that same forgiveness.

Some specific time slots are set aside for that in the hope that everyone can be accommodated who wants to celebrate God's forgiveness in the individual confession.

IT MATTERS WHAT WE SING: THREE COMINGS OF CHRIST!
As we light the Advent candle at the beginning of Mass we sing: Kyrie, eleison...The verses that go with that are very important. They help us focus on the three-fold coming of Christ, a basic tenet of the Christian faith:

past:
Lord Jesus, you came to gather the nations in the peace of God's kingdom.
present:
You come in word and sacrament to strengthen us in holiness.
future:
You will come in glory with salvation for your people.

"MARANATHA! COME, LORD JESUS COME!" WHAT A COINCIDENCE...
That is the line we are using in the Advent Christmas season in response to the General Intercessions or the Prayer of the Faithful at Mass. To my surprise I found the same line appropriately used in a reflection of The Tablet of November 20: "During Advent this year, I wonder if we are waiting for the time when we feel that our little efforts can make a difference in the world. I know that I am waiting for the time when the world will be a more peaceful place. I am waiting but I wonder if I should do something to help make it more peaceful. I am waiting for the time when we will share the world's resources more fairly. I am waiting but I wonder if I can do something to help. I am waiting for the time when the Church is a more welcoming place. I am waiting but I wonder if I personally need to be more welcoming. I am waiting for the time when I notice that Jesus is really present when we gather in his name, when we hear him speaking to us in the Scriptures, when we meet him in the sacraments. I am waiting but I know that we only ever get a glimpse of him, and these glimpses normally come in our ordinary life experiences. During Advent this year, perhaps we can all pray "Maranatha" and keep praying "Come, Lord Jesus, come" every day of our lives.

IN SEARCH OF TWO WARDENS FOR O.L.V. :
The three-year term for Agnes Jeror and Tom Laframboise is completed. We are looking for two wardens to make our team of six plus the president complete. Please, let us know if you are interested or if you know of someone who could serve our parish in that capacity.

ANYONE INTERESTED IN COORDINATING THE HALL RENTAL?
Linda Cameron has done that for the last while; she would like to pass that on to another parishioner. It basically comes down to serving as contact person for those who want to rent our hall. Fees and contracts are settled by the Wardens, but we need someone to coordinate this. And please don't forget it provides a bit of revenue for our church, something much appreciated and needed.

PLEASE PRAY for Dora Kelly who died recently . May she rest in the peace of Christ.

BLOOD DONOR CLINIC:
Tuesday, December 14, 1:00-8:00 p.m. . Community Center, Joseph St .

CEREAL BAR DRIVE:
Sunday, December 19. (Please make sure they are cereal bars - not chocolate bars).

SUNDAY ENVELOPES-O.L.V. are available at the entrance to the Church. If you wish to become an envelope user, please take a box of envelopes and please write your name on the first envelope that you use.

CHRISTMAS FLOWERS - O.L.V. : There is a basket at the entrance to the church for those wishing to make a contribution towards the purchase of flowers to decorate the church for Christmas.
